Senator Jerry Hill reflects on the life and legacy of CHP Officer Dale M. Krings, who died in the line of duty in May 1962. Hill, members of the Krings family, friends and law enforcement dignitaries gathered May 17, 2013, to name the rest area on northbound I-280 near Hillsborough after Officer Krings.
Marjorie Modenessi, the widow of Officer Krings; their son, Michael, and daughter, Kathy; their spouses, the officer's sister, Ruth; the Krings' granchildren and several other relatives were joined by CHP and Peninsula law enforcement leaders, including Chief Teresa Becher, commander of the CHP Golden Gate Division, and Assistant Chiefs Mark Rasmussen and Sherrell Sutherland, also of the CHP Golden Gate Division; San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks and Lieutenants Ed Barberini and Tim Reid of the Sheriff's Office; Hillsborough Police Chief Mark O'Connor; Daly City Police Chief Manuel Martinez Jr.; Chief Deputy Karen Guidotti of the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office; Assistant District Attorney Al Serrato; Chief Inspector John Warren of the San Mateo County District Attorney's Bureau of Inspection; and Pacifica Police Captain Dan Steidle.
