Officer Kim Trask of the Colma Police Department, speaking in support of SB 1046, provided the perspective of first responders. "We see firsthand the damage and injuries caused by drunk drivers -- those visions stay with us," Trask said at the news conference.
In her four years as an officer, she said, she had made numerous arrests for driving under the influence. "I've seen those who are incapable of standing without assistance" behind the wheel, said Trask. "Sadly, almost everyone I have arrested has had a history driving under the influence and may continue doing so even after arrest...I believe ignition interlocks for all offenders are a tool that will save lives and stop drunk driving."
Brent Meyer, vice president of the Peace Officers Research Association of California, (top row, second from left) and Tom Maguire, a district director fo the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, (top row, far right) also spoke in support of SB 1046.
