On June 17, the Senate Committee on Labor, Public Employment and Retirement voted 4-1 to advance ACA 5, the Assembly Constitutional Amendment that enables California voters to decide whether to repeal controversial Proposition 209, which was passed in 1996. Senate Bill 793, the legislation introduced by Senator Jerry Hill to prohibit retail sales of flavored tobacco products, cleared its first major hurdle when the Senate Health Committee voted 8-1 in favor of the bill, sending it to the Senate Appropriations Committee for further review.
