The California Senate adjourned its session Thursday, June 29, 2017, in memory of Chinese community leader Arnold C. Lee at the request of Senators Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties) and Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco). Mr. Lee, 80, of Millbrae and a former San Francisco resident, was a longtime volunteer for organizations that included some of the most prominent and historic service groups based in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

Senator Hill live streamed his annual virtual town hall, "Ask Jerry," on February 15, 2017, from Sacramento. Families of victims killed by drunk drivers brought jarring physical evidence – the vehicle wrecked by a DUI offender – to the Capitol to demonstrate the need to prevent people from driving drunk. They joined Senator Jerry Hill, Mothers Against Drunk Driving representatives and law enforcement partners in a news conference to urge passage of Hill’s SB 1046. The bill requires ignition interlocks for all convicted DUI offenders. Click the frame to view the video. View photos of the news conference here.

Victims of botched treatment and other severe medical errors join Senator Jerry Hill and representatives of the Consumers Union Safe Patient Project in a news conference in the state Capitol to call for support of Hill's Senate Bill 1033 and display examples of the notice that patients would receive from a doctor on probation for serious offenses under the legislation. Victims of dubious doctors say advance notice could have saved them or their loved ones from severe injuries and, in at least one case, death. Click the frame to view the video of the news conference.
