Senator Jerry Hill Holds Hearing on Next Steps and the Timeline for EDD’s Progress

SACRAMENTO – Californians are counting on the Employment Development Department to clear its backlog of claims and queries from the thousands and thousands of people who’ve lost their jobs in the pandemic. The problem was brought into sharp focus by earlier hearings, news reports, outcry from the public, and findings by the Governor’s Strike Force. What comes next and how soon?

WHAT: Senator Hill, D-San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, as chair of the Senate’s Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee, convenes a hearing to examine the next steps and their timeline. The virtual hearing is called:
“Moving Beyond the Crisis: An Exploration of Ongoing and Future Efforts by the EDD to Address the COVID-19 Crisis.”

WHO: Members of the Strike Force, EDD management and EDD employees have been invited to testify. In addition to posing questions to the Strike Force and department representatives, the committee has asked EDD workers to share their perspective and their ideas about what should be done to make the department function properly and their expectations for a successful resolution.
