AI Accountability Forums – Virtual Town Halls – October 26th & 27th
Dear Friends,
Like many of you, I’ve been deeply concerned by recent headlines about renegade AI systems. Unfortunately, leadership is not coming from Washington, DC on this most critical issue when we need it urgently.
In July 2025, I led a delegation to the European Union (EU) to compare notes with the world’s leading AI regulators. For the past three years, I’ve passed nation-leading laws on transparency for AI content in coordination with the EU.
During that work, I have increasingly heard your concerns regarding renegade AI and what can be done about it.
On October 26th and 27th, I’ll be continuing that conversation with a two-part virtual forum on AI risks and the latest cutting-edge safety research.
We’ll hear from experts across civil society, industry, and academia to answer your questions about where the state of the art is now, and where we need to go this next year.
I’ll be joined by nationally recognized expert panelists from:
Monday, October 26 - AI Risks
- Encode
- Omidyar Network
Tuesday, October 27 - AI Safety Research and Open Questions
- Secure AI Project
- Stanford University
- Industry experts
This summer I read, “Infinity Machine: Demis Hassabis, DeepMind and the Quest for Superintelligence.” I highly recommend it. That book helped me understand more clearly how we got to this current moment.
AI as a technology has many potential benefits, and many potential risks. We are already seeing those risks materialize in cybercrime, conventional weapons development, and attempts at acquiring dual-use knowledge by malicious actors.
This is the second part in a series of forums on a wide range of AI-related topics to understand what the experts are seeing, and what information we still need. I hope to see you there!
RSVP for Part 1: Risks on Monday, October 26
RSVP for Part 2: Safety Research and Open Questions on Tuesday, October 27
Sincerely,
Josh Becker
