Senator Josh Becker Presents A Virtual Town Hall On Retail Theft

Retail Theft Virtual Town Hall

Dear Friends:

Retail theft is obviously a big issue for the Bay Area, impacting so many people and businesses and the quality of life in our community. Between 2019 and 2022, the region saw the highest number of reported incidents in the state. Here, in our own district, retail crime increased by 53 percent in San Mateo County and by 14 percent in Santa Clara County during that timeframe.

What’s being done to address it?

The Senate has put together a 14-bill retail theft and fentanyl package to address crimes that are hurting our businesses and impacting our communities. In addition, a number of San Mateo and Santa Clara county law enforcement agencies received a portion of the state’s largest-ever single grant – $267 million – as part of Governor Newsom’s Real Public Safety Plan.

Join me for a virtual town hall on Tuesday, May 7th from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM PST as I discuss the issue of retail theft with a panel of experts including:

  • San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus
  • Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen
  • Senator Aisha Wahab, California Senate District 10
  • President & CEO of California Retailers Association, Rachel Michelin

You’ll learn about the strategies and tactics being used by law enforcement, lawmakers, district attorneys, and retailers to combat shoplifting and organized retail theft.
