California seniors lost a record-breaking $1.4 billion to cybercrime and financial fraud in 2025, according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Report. This number represents a 68% increase from 2024. Although we do not yet have statistics for 2026, we know that AI is playing a key role in this serious problem.

Please join me for a Senior Scam Stopper event in Mountain View on Friday, October 23rd to learn about current scams and how to avoid them. I’ll be talking about my California AI Transparency Act (CAITA), which requires greater transparency around AI-generated content, and I’ll be discussing my Delete Act, which has already given over 500,000 Californians a simple way to tell registered data brokers to delete their personal information, reducing the amount of personal data available to fuel unwanted solicitations, spam, and scams.

You will also hear from experts from the California Department of Insurance, the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, the California Privacy Protection Agency, and the Contractors State License Board. These representatives will discuss common schemes and provide tips that help you identify fraud, particularly as it relates to insurance, identity theft, phone scams, and home and auto repair.
