Town Hall: Fire and Flood Insurance in the Time of Climate Change

Fires in California have compromised our community’s safety and well-being. San Mateo County’s risk for flooding due to sea level rise is one of the highest in the state. Please join me for a town hall with fire and flood insurance experts, as well as fire hardening authorities to help everyone prepare.

My virtual town hall "Fire and Flood Insurance in the Time of Climate Change," featuring Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara of California's Department of Insurance; Edie Lohmann, National Flood Insurance Program Specialist with FEMA Region IX; and Becca Joyner, Program Manager with California FireSafe Council.

Our experts will share their perspectives on what residents in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County can do to secure insurance in the face of drier and hotter times. Hear about the State’s efforts to update regulations so that insurance is easier to access, FEMA’s efforts around flood insurance, and what you and your community can do to help harden your homes and neighborhoods.
