“Every resident in California should have the comfort of knowing they can afford their basic needs — the ability to eat when they’re hungry, to have hygiene products like soap, toothpaste and deodorant, as well as essentials such as toilet paper. The incarcerated community has the same basic needs as everyone else, but over the years, canteen prices have skyrocketed, making it very difficult to afford food and hygiene items.”

Following the intense deluge of storms that hit the Bay Area this past winter, potholes and road conditions on El Camino Real got noticeably worse.

State Sen. Josh Becker in partnership with the housing nonprofit DignityMoves introduced a bill aimed at easing the installation of relocatable units on vacant land as “opportunity” homes Becker said could help get thousands out of homelessness.
“Opportunity housing is the most hopeful development I’ve seen to not just address, but actually put an end to our homelessness crisis at scale and with speed,” Becker, D-San Mateo, said in a press release. “My goal is to get tens of thousands of people off the street in the next few years and I’m confident we will do that.”
Proposals would extend streamlined approval for new housing and promote green-energy projects
(KRON) — One California state senator is pushing a new effort to make it easier to put housing units onto empty lots.
“It’s heartbreaking that California has the highest rates of homelessness in the country,” said State Senator Josh Becker, (D) San Mateo.
Becker, who represents portions of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, has introduced SB-634. If signed into law, the bill would make it easier for temporary housing units to be placed on empty parcels of land, both public and private.
A program to allow more access to community college in San Mateo County is part of a larger effort to encourage more California students to enroll in four-year universities — which is a priority for state Sen. Josh Becker, D-San Mateo.
