PG&E projects rate drop in 2026, SB 254 moves through legislation for bill relief

(KCRC) NORTHSTATE, Calif. — Many individuals continue to advocate for reduced rates, including Senator Josh Becker through the introduction of Senate Bill 254. Meanwhile, PG&E anticipates utility rates will drop next year, but the amount is still to be determined.

KRCR spoke with PG&E spokesperson Paul Moreno, who stated that the average residential electric bill for non-CARE customers is approximately $215 per month. Moreno mentioned that the utility company has projected rate stability through the end of 2025, with a decrease expected in 2026 following a $2.5 billion reduction in spending costs. These cost-cutting measures include improved negotiations with vendors and contractors, more efficient purchasing of supplies and materials, and streamlined business operations.
