Californians gain power to delete personal data with new DROP online tool

SACRAMENTO, Calif — Californians who want to protect their personal information can now opt to have their data deleted from processors.

Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled the Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP) on Tuesday, which allows people to delete their information from hundreds of centers. According to the governor, this is the first-of-its-kind platform in the nation.

Doing so helps people in a number of ways, such as avoiding spam messages, potential scams and sensitive information being leaked in data breaches.
