New California law will require AI content labels, under threat of a fine to AI providers

The law, known as the California AI Transparency Act, will require large artificial intelligence system providers to label their AI-generated content. Large AI providers, the target of this act, are any entities that provide content to more than 1 million users.

Sen. Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park), the law’s author, hopes that it will reduce harm to residents by making it easier to identify AI-generated photos, images and videos.

“AI is making it easier than ever to create convincing election misinformation, deepfakes, and scams that cost Americans more than $1 billion each year,” Becker’s office said in an email to FOX40.
