SACRAMENTO – “President Biden’s signing of the sweeping Inflation Reduction Act gives Americans new hope on multiple fronts: prescription price relief for seniors on Medicare, extending federal health care insurance subsidies, ensuring that our biggest corporations pay their fair share in taxes, and driving down the deficit by $300 billion in the next decade.
“As a long-time climate action advocate, the single most impressive element to me in the new law is the bold, nearly $370 billion committed to combat climate change. This includes investments in clean energy; consumer incentives to buy heat pumps, electric washers, dryers, other major household appliances and electric cars; and work to ensure our communities hardest by pollution have equal access to the clean energy future.
“We need urgent action, and the federal dollars from the new law – coupled with the new laws we are considering in Sacramento – can drastically accelerate our path to 100%clean energy and a carbon-free future.
“In California, transformative change through climate investment and action has become a mantra in our Capitol. I’m heartened that with our President, the White House again embraces this theme. While we all have much work still before us, it is encouraging to see our President and Congress working to reclaim America’s position as a leader in climate action.” – State Senator Josh Becker, D-Peninsula.
Senator Becker chairs the Senate Subcommittee on the Clean Energy Future and serves as vice chair of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Climate Change Policies.
