SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) released the following statement on the announcement of the Governor’s 2024-25 budget proposal.
“The budget proposal Governor Newsom unveiled today highlights the tangible progress made possible by the responsible budget decisions the Legislature adopted last year.
“Thanks to those forward-thinking choices, California is on a strong financial foundation, allowing us to advance confidently toward our clean energy and climate goals, as well as housing, homelessness, education and affordability.
“At the same time, as we confront one of the most destructive wildfires in our state’s history, this budget takes a major step towards expanding our much needed wildfire response resources—including wildfire resiliency measures, enhanced air attack capabilities, increased firefighter capacity, and cutting-edge anti-wildfire technology.
“This is a testament to the state’s commitment to sustainability and fiscal responsibility.
“I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues and the Governor on a finalized budget that works for all Californians.”
Senator Becker is the Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Communications, and is the former Chair of the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment, which oversaw the expansion of investments in wildfire prevention and preparedness.
