SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) has announced a major fundraising initiative, uniting Silicon Valley’s tech leaders and entrepreneurs to support victims of the devastating Palisades Fire. The wildfire, which has already resulted in two deaths, displaced thousands of families, and destroyed critical infrastructure and property in Southern California, has sparked an outpouring of solidarity across the state.
Senator Becker, who represents the heart of innovation, is mobilizing the region’s influential tech community to contribute to recovery efforts to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.
“We are all Californians, and when disaster strikes, we come together to help one another,” said Senator Becker. “Silicon Valley has always been a place of big ideas and bold solutions, and I am calling the tech community to channel our resources and creativity to support our neighbors in need.”
The funds raised will be used to provide immediate relief to displaced families, rebuild homes, and restore critical infrastructure in fire-damaged areas.
The Palisades Fire is the largest fire in the state’s history and has already destroyed over one thousand structures and burned over 11,000 acres, forcing over 150,000 residents to evacuate and leaving a path of destruction that will take years to rebuild.
With more extreme weather events linked to climate change, Senator Becker emphasized the need for both immediate action and long-term solutions. “As we support the victims of this fire, we must also continue to address the root causes of these disasters, including climate resilience and sustainable community planning,” said Becker.
