Senator Josh Becker To Host Virtual Town Hall On Fire & Flood Issues

*** MEDIA ADVISORY***

(Menlo Park) – Bringing together experts to talk about the challenges associated with preparing for floods and fire in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties are the goals of “Fire and Flood Insurance in the Time of Climate Change," a virtual town hall to be hosted by Senator Josh Becker (D-Peninsula), on Wednesday, October 12, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

“As we’ve seen from devastating fires in California and Oregon to record flooding in Florida and Pakistan, climate change will increase the number and depth of natural disasters,” said Becker.  “I’m looking forward to the conversation about what people in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties can do to harden their neighborhoods and better protect themselves against the dangerous risks posed by fire and flooding.”

Joining Senator Becker for this discussion will be:

•    Ricardo Lara, California Insurance Commissioner
•    Edie Lohmann, a National Flood Insurance Program Specialist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
•    Becca Joyner, Program Manager with the California FireSafe Council
